The High-end Forum of Chinese Path to Modernization and Reform and Innovation in the New Era Successfully Held at Institute of Marxism of Shenzhen University

On December 18, 2022,a high-end forum of Chinese Path to Modernization and Reform and Innovation in the New Era wasjointly hosted bythe Institute of Marxism of Shenzhen University, the Center of Regional Collaborative Innovation for Ideological and Political Courses of Guangdong Universities and the Department of Social Sciences of Shenzhen University. The forum was co-organized by Marxism Research and Marxism and Reality. The forum was held both online and offline, and experts and scholars from Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Central China Normal University, Jilin University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and other universities attended the forum. Zhang Xiaohong, Vice President of Shenzhen University, attended this forum and warmly welcomed the attending experts and scholars. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor Wang Hong, a member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen University’s Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, and Professor Fu Heming, Dean of the School of Marxism.

The forum was closely centered on the theme of "the practice of Chinese path to modernization in Shenzhen". Han Qingxiang, a first-class professor andformer Deputy Director of Education and Director of the Philosophy Teaching and Research Department of Party School of the CPC Central Committee,,delivered a speech titled “The In-Depth Logic of Chinese Path to Modernization”. He emphasized the importance of exploring the political, realistic, era, and theoretical logic of the Chinese path to modernization in order to gain a deeper understanding of its essential characteristics.

Professor Luo Yuting, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, discussed the internal logical relationship between the Chinese path to modernization and the spirit of reform and innovation in his speech titled "The Spirit of Innovation in Chinese Path to Modernization". He noted that the Chinese path to modernization needs to carry forward the spirit of reform and innovation, which embodies the spiritual strength of the Chinese people to forge ahead with the Chinese path to modernization. The Chinese path to modernization calls for carrying forward the spirit of reform and innovation in the new era and on the new journey, and promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with the Chinese path to modernization.

Professor Zhu Huanghe, former Chairman of Jiangxi Federation of Social Sciences, noted that the Chinese path to modernization is a highlight of discussions among the academia and all walks of life. At the same time, where the links and differences between the Chinese path to modernization and modernization in other countries are, where the differences between the Chinese path to modernization and modernization in western developed countries that have already achieved modernization are, what the similarities and differences are, and how to clarify the differences and connections between the Chinese path to modernization and China's modernization and socialist modernization are among the difficulties for the theoretical research.

Professor Ai Silin, Dean of Institute of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era of Tsinghua University,analyzed the relationship among the nature, essential characteristics and Chinese characteristics of the Chinese path to modernization, noting that the most essential feature of the Chinese path to modernization is the leadership of the CPC. The Chinese path to modernization has been following the general laws of human modernization and reflected Chinese characteristics.Professor Ai Silin explained that the Chinese path to modernization was more of a summary of practice than a product of thinking.

Professor Chen Jinlong, Dean of the School of Marxism of South China Normal University, made an in-depth elaboration on the historical logic of the Chinese path to modernization from the four dimensions of the evolution of the Chinese path to modernization, and noting that the Chinese path to modernization has achieved the historical evolution from a limited modernization to a comprehensive modernization, from an efficiency oriented modernization to a quality oriented modernization, from a catch-up modernization to a leading modernization, and from the practice to the theory of the Chinese path to modernization.

Professor Wan Meirong, Dean of the School of Marxism of Central China Normal University,delivered a keynote speech on the topic of “strengthening the confidence and strength in building a modern socialist power”. Henoted that the construction of the Chinese path to modernization requires all people to participate in the construction of a comprehensive modernization in a good state of mind, how to boost morale and improve the confidence and belief of the people, make it clear the great changes and brilliant achievements made in the past, and clarify the central task of the CPC.

Professor Han Xiping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin University, pointed out that the Chinese path to modernization is a modernization with the purpose of human modernization, which has provided new choices and new trends for human modernization, created a new form of human civilization, and provided valuable experience for the modernization of developing countries. The Chinese path to modernization is a modernization led by the CPC. With a good political and material basis, it creates the advantages of socialism and market economy, and deals with the issues of common prosperity, harmonious development between man and nature, and material civilization and spiritual civilization traps.

Professor Dong Hui of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, made a speech under the title of “independent Chinese path to modernization”, focusing on understanding the three dimensions of independent Chinese path to modernization, the value implication of adhering to independent Chinese path to modernization, the practice and achievements of adhering to independent modernization in China in the new era, and how to further promote independent Chinese path to modernization in the future.

Professor Zhang Jiangang of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences made a comprehensive and in-depth discussion on the topic of “six important relationships that need to be maintained in the Chinese path to modernization in the new era”. He noted that under the circumstances of a changing world and changing domestic contradictions, the six important relationships, namely, the relationship between modernization and industrialization, modernization and urbanization, modernization and informatization, domestic market and international market, cities and rural areas, and high-quality development and common prosperity, must be maintained, in order to better build socialism with Chinese characteristics, and achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Professor Jiang An of Shenzhen University made profound thinking around the proposition of the Chinese path to modernization and pointed out that China’s proposal of the Chinese path to modernization is based on China’s long history and culture, a huge national carrier, a unique civilization and a unique political system. It is a process of continuous social progress and transformation, with many new growth points, providing new insights and possibilities for creating a school for us to study the Chinese path to modernization, and building a theoretical framework for studying modernization in China. China is also experiencing a major transformation in the process of major transformation of the world, during which the international division of labor will face redistribution. At this critical juncture, the Chinese path to modernization has been proposed to seek to change the international division of labor, and thus change China's status and destiny.

At this meeting, a number of renowned scholars and experts from domestic universities came together to make excellent speeches.They shared profound views and theories, bringing a high-end feast of ideas and theories to the participants, and providing new ideas for in-depth learning and understanding of the 20th NCCPC, especially for a more in-depth understanding and discussion of the Chinese path to modernization.
